Hoop Dreams: A magnificent documentary that follows 2 Chicago central-city kids (Arthur Agee and William Bars), who have fantasies of basketball stardom, over a 4 years period. This quaint and immersing film plays like drama, not documentary, with the exception of that it takes spontaneous twists and turns no author might create. The film presents a scorching commentary on our school system, the indomitable power of the family, and the uncertainty of life. (109 minutes, 1994)

Hail Mafia: Somewhat fascinating melodrama in regards to employed killers going after a witness that has witnessed mob activities. Cast includes Henry Silva, Jack Klugman, Eddie Constantine, Elsa Martinelli, and Micheline Presle. (89 minutes, 1965)

Bootleggers: An action comedy set in 1930s Arkansas with Koslo and Fimple trying to outsmart and outdo opponent moon shining family when running their booze to Memphis. Cast includes Paul Koslo, Dennis Fimple, Thin Pickens, and Jaclyn Smith. (101 minutes, 1974)

Rambling Rose: An evocative story set in 1930s Georgia, with Dem as an oversexed senseless gal who comes to work for a ladylike family headed by Duvall and Ladd. Vibrant, pleasantly detailed, and well performed, with numerous delightful surprises during the voyage. Cast includes Laura Dem, Robert Duvall, Diane Ladd, Lukas Haas, John Heard, Kevin Conway, Robert J. Burke, Lisa Jakub, and Evan Lockwood. (112 minutes, 1991)

Seize the Day: Williams is momentous as Tommy Withelm, turning 40 and a failure by any standard, broke, and much in need of finding love. Wiseman and Stiller offer fine aid as his cold hearted dad and a con man he naively believes in. Lots of recognizable faces in tiny roles: Tony Roberts, Richard Shull, John Fiedler, Jo Van Fleet, William Hickey, Eileen Heckart, and numerous others. Cast includes Robin Williams, Joseph Wiseman, Jerry Stiller, and Glenne Headly. (93 minutes, 1986)

The Alannist: An eccentric and choppy black comedy in reference to a novice door to door security alarm salesman (Arquette) who finds that his manager and self-fashioned mentor (Tucci) is a crook. Then the youthful gentleman falls in love with his first client (Capshaw). Cast includes David Arquette, Stanley Tucci, Kate Capshaw, Mary McCormack, Ryan Reynolds, and Tricia Vessey. (93 minutes, 1998)

The Music Man: Peerless Preston reprises his Broadway role as sales man con guy Prof. Harold Hill who captivates an Iowa town with visions of uniformed marching band. Cast includes Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Friend Hackett, Hermione Gingold, Paul Ford, Pert Kelton, and Ronny Howard. (151 minutes, 1962)

Lars and the Real Girl: Nice film in regards to socially shocked Gosling, who buys a life sized doll and treats her as if she's alive, to the appall of his older sibling, and brother in law, and the neighbors in their tight knit society. Luckily, an understanding physician (Clarkson) guides them in the right direction. Cast includes Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson, Kelli Gamer, and Paul Schneider. (106 minutes, 2007)

For Love of Ivy: A family desires to keep their servant, so they find her a man to keep her happy. The film is a ho-hum black romance at best. Cast includes Sidney Poitier, Abbey Lincoln, Guy Bridges, Leon Bibb, Nan, Martin, Lauri Peters, and Carroll O'Connor. (102 minutes, 1968)
