The many different genres of motion pictures appeal to diverse people. There are always those who love a excellent horror movie and despise a good chick flick but most often there are some motion pictures that we like and others that we dislike no matter the genre. The good thing about the movie entertainment business is that they always offer up something that appeals to everyone. They Only Kill Their Masters hit the screens in 1972. Extraordinary cast in difficult modem-night mystery set in coastal California town; tries for Daniel Hammett sensation, doesn't relatively make it. Policeman Garner attempts to resolve slaughter of pregnant woman, with formidable Doberman pinscher figuring prominently. Not bad, however a disappointment. Cast includes James Garner, Katharine Ross, Hal Holbrook, Harry Guardino, June Allyson, Peter Lawford, and Ann Rutherford.

Sugar Town - Entertaining variety of LA life characterizing a handful of characters whose lives dovetail - a musician aspirant who'll do anything to get ahead, an uptight lone woman who allures the unsuitable men like a magnet, and a band made up of cleaned-up '80s rock stars, to name a few. Made on a shoestring, although intelligent and well recognized; outstanding cast comprises a number of actual musicians. Cast includes Ally Sheedy, Rosanna Arquette, John Taylor, Jade Gordon, Michael Des Barres, Lucinda Jenney, and Martin Kemp.

The Believer is a brutal evaluation of a young Jewish man in N.Y.C. who decides to become a neo-Nazi skinhead. He struggles with the clash between his thinking and his heritage. Gosling gives a stellar performance as the young Jewish man which is loosely based on a true story. Cast includes Ryan Gosling, Summer Phoenix, Billy Zane, Theresa Russell, Glenn Fitzgerald and Ronald Guttman. (98 minutes, 2002)

Each Dawn I Die from 1939. Journalist Cagney is framed, and sent to the penitentiary where he meets a dangerous inmate, Raft. There is outstanding acting all around. Cagney hits a white-hot summit with his character, however the last half of movie gets to be outrageously unlikely. Music score composed by Max Steiner. Cast includes James Cagney, George Raft, George Bancroft, Jane Bryan, Maxie Rosenbloom, Stanley Ridges, Louis Jean Heydt, Abner Biberman, John Wray, Victor Jory, and Thurston Chamber.
