I'm something of a jazz cat. While I was never good enough to fill a tip hat, I have never had any reservation about breaking out my trumpet at little soirees. Like most people who went to college to pursue the arts, I work in a field that has nothing to do with my MFA. I work as a hotel manager by day and compose music by night. Sometimes, I even manage to book a gig on the weekends.
One festival I've always wanted to catch is the Monterey Jazz Festival. I'm planning to go this year and I've looked into a variety of hotels in Monterey California online. With a click of the mouse I can have the pick of the litter, so to speak. Lookout Monterey, here I come.
As the time draws near, I've begin to do some more research on this prestigious festival. This past year's lineup was phenomenal: Wynton Marsalis, Pete Seeger, Regina Carter, and my personal favorite, Esperanza Spalding. Dozens of gifted jazz and folk musicians are scheduled to appear, so there's about a zero percent chance that I'll be disappointed.
With over fifty concert performances on nine separate stages, variety won't be a problem. In addition to all the jazz you can handle, artist panels, live discussions, workshops, clinics, eclectic foods, shopping venues, and exhibitions will all be made available. This all takes place across a 20 acre expanse chopped full of eager music fans.
I'll be bringing the love of my life to share the festival with. I could never leave Judy alone for more than a day anyway. We met back in college and have been together since. I'm talking about my trumpet, by the way -- not my wife. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to fill up that hat once and for all this year. Wish me luck, and hope to see you in Monterey in September. - 30404
