The Beatles 2009 Remasters

By Harold Laurence Quesenberry

The Beatles classic albums were first digitally remastered and released on CD back in the late 1980s at that time remastering for CD was still a new art and since the 80s a whole bunch has been learned about how to remaster best but most important is all of the many technological advances during that time.

The many leaps forward in digital technology and all of the know how learned of how to best remaster original analog tapes digitally have been put to good use with the Beatles remasters of 2009. On September 9, 2009 The Beatles released both The Beatles in Stereo and The Beatles in Mono. And both box sets sound really great. If you have not yet heard them then I recommend that you hear The Beatles remastered as soon as possible.

Which kind of Beatles remastered should a fan purchase? Well for this guy the answer was definitely "all of the above" but if you have to choose just one you'll most likely want to go with the stereo box set since it includes all thirteen of their UK studio albums and most folks will like the stereo mixes more than the mono mixes.

The Beatles Mono Box Set is more for really serious Beatles fans who want to hear all of the differences between the stereo & mono mixes (and in some cases they are quite different from each other) and for fans who want to hear the Fab Four how they originally listened to them (this obviously applies to the original fans who were there for The Beatles in the flesh in the 60s.)

As of December 8, 2009 there's a third choice: The Beatles USB. This USB memory stick contains The Beatles in Stereo Box Set in a little thing that fits in the palm of my hand. How cool is that? It contains all of their albums in two ways; high quality mp3s and better than CD quality 24bit FLAC.

That "better than CD quality" part is what will excite a good number of audiophiles but for most it is the 320kbps mp3s that will be played the most. - 30404
