A Few Comprehensive Major Motion Picture Story Lines

By Milton Benson

Until recently, if you wanted to watch a movie, a trip to a video store like blockbuster was your only option. Instead of buying or renting the dvd, people now can choose a movie download instead. You can get virtually any movie you want with a good movie download site. Here are some examples.

The Defiant: A preoccupying tale of 2 fled convicts one black, and one off-white-chained together as they escape from patrol in the South. Fine performances by Williams and Chaney as, individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize-triumphing screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith 'and Nathan E. Douglas blacklisted performer-author Nedrick singer Presley while he's acting in England; typical Elvis fare, however he does harmonize "Long Legged Gal," one of his best post Army tunes. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Sidney Poitier, Theodore Bike, Charles McGraw, Carnie Williams, and Lon Chaney, Jr. (97 minutes, 1958)

The Ace: This film is directed by Giuseppe Colizzi. The Ace tells the story of a 1920's high flyer that flies stunt planes with his son. Cast includes Bill Sampson, Cliff Robertson, Pamela Franklin, and Eric Shea. (1973 adventure-drama)

Play Misty for Me: Well-finished shocker of a late night stereo D.J. is stalked by homicidal ex-fan Walter. Eastwood's first film as controller; his regular controller, Don Siegel, plays Murphy the bartender. Cast includes Clint Eastwood, Jessica Walter, Donna Plants, John Larch, Irene Hervey, Jack Ging, and Johnny Otis. (102 minutes, 1971)

The Man in the Glass Booth: American Film Theatre rendition of Robert Shaw's play in reference to a glib Jewish industrialist carried to trial for Nazi battle offenses. Schell is excellent, however overall consequence is contrived. Shaw had his name expelled from credits of film. Cast includes Maximilian Schell, Lois Nettleton, Luther Adler, Lawrence Pressman, Henry Brown, and Richard Rasof. (117 minutes, 1975)

The Fabulous Baker Boys: 2 brothers' for 15 year partnership as a double-piano nightclub lounge act is rattled by the addition of a feisty (and seductive) singer, who kindles changes in their act, and their relation. Author Kloves' prompting debut is trendy and self assured, with some awesome scenes and set pieces, although it skimps on tale-and by no means seriously fleshes out Jeff Bridges' morose personality. The Bridges brothers are impeccably cast, Pfeiffer is superlative. Her misty rendition of "Makin' Whoopee", although piano pondered a little, is classic. Cast includes Jeff Bridges, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dude Bridges, Ellie Raab, and Jennifer Tilly. (113 minutes, 1989)

Ransom: Executive Tom Mullen has a problem. His son has just been kidnapped, and is being held for a huge ransom. Defying law enforcement advice, he comes up with his own plan for dealing with the kidnapper, and refuses to pay.

The Cable Guy: Steve Kovacs has moved into a new apartment. When Chip the cable guy comes over to set up his system, Steve slips him a fifty for some free channels. Chip sees this as an opening to be Steve's best friend. It will be the worst $50 that Steve has ever spent.

Get Smart: Maxwell Smart is back. It's CONTROL versus KAOS in the classic battle of good versus evil. Analyst Maxwell is thrust into the role as secret agent and must put down the attack by KAOS, and their leader Siegfried.

House Party Two: Uninspired continuation has Baby Reid heading off to college-if he might just keep on to the money his temple assembly has brought up to send him there. Reid is still appealing, but this splintered film has little to offer, regardless of its communal awareness meteoric and get a learning "message." Cast includes Christopher Reid, Christopher Martin, Eugene Allen, George Anthony Bell, and William Schatner. (94 minutes, 1991)
