The Beatles USB Stick

By Harold Joshua Quesenberry

The Beatles are one of the few bands who have never made their music available to be bought as mp3 downloads on AmazonMP3 or iTunes. I'm pretty sure they are the only band that has sold millions of albums that isn't included on iTunes.

When it was announced that The Beatles were finally releasing their music digitally on December 8 of 2009 most folks probably assumed that this meant that they were going to be sold as downloads but that's not the case, instead The Beatles USB will contain The Beatles entire'60s stereo catalog.

The Beatles USB stick contains the remastered Beatles in Stereo box set except clearly in a much different format than DVD and 16 CDs. This Beatles USB flash drive that you can easily hold in your hand includes all of the same music and all of the same visual elements as the much larger box set.

The USB includes all of the remastered Beatles stereo tracks in the box set twice because it holds 320kbps mp3s and 44.1kHz/24bit FLACs. I am certain you have experience with mp3s (320kbps mp3s are of very high quality) but how about the FLAC, what does that mean? Essentially FLAC files are considered to be "lossless" which means there is not a loss of sound quality like with mp3s or other "lossy" formats. And since they are 24bit instead of the 16 bit files that are on compact discs, they are of higher quality than CD.

This means that The Beatles USB now contains the best quality versions of The Beatles stereo remasters! Of course, that might change if there is a DVD or Blu-Ray release in the works but at the moment this is the audiophile holy grail when it comes to The Beatles stereo remasters.

What about the mono mixes? Unfortunately these are not included on this USB stick. You still have to buy The Beatles in Mono Box Set to hear the mono mixes. - 30404
