Believe in me: Yet another 1970s film that all about drug problems. Working gal Bisset finds that she has become completely dependent on speed while living in the East Village section of New York City. Cast includes Michael Sarrazin, Jacqueline Bisset, Jon Cypher, Allen Garfield, and Kurt Dodenhoff. (90 minutes, 1971)

The Sea Wolf: Sharp Jack London story of fierce although intellectual ocean commander Robinson fighting a battle of wits as unintentional passenger Knox, a brash sailor Garfield, and an escapee Lupino try to flee. Cast includes Edward G. Robinson, John Garfield, Ida Lupino, Alexander Knox, Gene Lockhart, Barry Fitzgerald, and Stanley Ridges. (90 minutes, 1941)

My Son John: Archetypal apple-pie parents (Hayes, Jagger) suspect their child (Stroller) of being a communist in this reactionary period piece. Dramatically overwrought, however this film is fascinating as a social history. Stroller (who's brilliant) died before film was completed. Thieves: A hard postwar drama about a returning vet looking for revenge from his trucker dad's punishment at the hands of a crooked fruit trader in San Francisco.
